Normally I'd make a joke about where Stalin would put the metal's but it's been done to death...

So I get to the point I like the design and it make me wonder what it looks like in color...

Ever thought of bumping up the highlights/midtones/shadows in the pencil scans, i.e. stretching the histogram so that the pencil is nearly black? [link] (this was done in GIMP, Colors->Levels I moved the bottom end of the histogram (black triangle) to 150)

These were drawn in photoshop with a brush that purposely mimics pencil sketching. Sometimes artists really want their sketches to look like sketches and not darker lineart. I'm sure he doesn't mind if you darken them up when saving them to your own files for personal viewing though.
